Bilateral Partnership to Enhance Skilling Programs and Innovation in Nepal

Kathmandu University Technical Training Center (KU-TTC) and MAW Skills Academy (MSA) have officially signed a Bilateral Agreement of Cooperation on August 1, 2024, marking a significant milestone in advancing engineering education and technical training in Nepal. This landmark collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academia and the industry by launching a comprehensive four-year academic program and specialized hands-on training in electric vehicle maintenance. The agreement, part of a broader cooperation between Kathmandu University’s School of Engineering (SOE) and MAW Skills Academy, sets the stage for an innovative partnership. This joint initiative will focus on implementing a long-term academic course and practical Electric Vehicle (EV) Maintenance programs. These programs are designed to cater to both domestic and international participants, providing them with cutting-edge skills and knowledge in the rapidly evolving field of electric vehicles. The primary objective of the agreement is to foster a robust collaboration that enhances the quality of technical education and training in Nepal. The partners will utilize their respective training facilities in Sitapaila (MAW) and Dhulikhel (KU-TTC) to deliver these programs, targeting a wide range of participants, including engineering professionals, aspiring B.TechEd students, and current engineering students specializing in mechanical and automobile disciplines. The agreement, which took effect immediately upon signing, outlines several key terms. KU-TTC and MSA will jointly conduct a ‘Need Assessment’ and design the necessary courses and programs. Both institutions will leverage their facilities to conduct training programs, enrolling students in academic and training courses. The partnership will facilitate the exchange of trainers and experts between MSA and KU-TTC, and both parties will jointly issue certifications for the programs. Additionally, the institutions will co-brand their programs and coordinate with the Nepal Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) to provide internship and job opportunities, with a preference for MAW Automobile verticals. Revenue and cost-sharing will be determined based on program-specific agreements. This agreement represents a significant step forward in enhancing technical education and industry collaboration in Nepal. The synergy between KU-TTC’s academic expertise and MSA’s industry knowledge is expected to produce well-rounded graduates equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. As the partnership progresses, specific Agreements of Cooperation (AOCs) will be signed to outline the modalities of each program, ensuring clarity and mutual understanding. This partnership is expected to contribute significantly to the development of the automotive and engineering sectors in Nepal, paving the way for future collaborations and innovations in the field.
